EN 207 / Full Protection against Laser radiation

In order to achieve a certification according to EN 207 Laser eye protection products require direct hit testing. The safety eyewear (filter and (!) frame) must have to withstand under standardised conditions a direct hit from the laser for which they have been selected for at least 5 seconds (cw) or 50 pulses (pulsed mode) with a beam diameter of Ø 1mm.

As a result of a successful test laser glasses get the CE certification and are labelled with protection levels, such

as D 10600 LB5 (where LB5 relates to a power density of 100 MW/m² as the damage threshold of the filter and frame during a 5 seconds direct hit test at 10600 nm). A copy of the certificate can be requested by any user of the laser safety eyewear. In countries which follow the European standard for personal protection it is not acceptable to select laser glasses according to Optical Density alone.
